Zuhrah Pelangi Sdn. Bhd's involvement in sericulture began in 1999. Zuhrah Pelangi was tasked with the operation and  management and further development of the Sematan Silk Farm through a 5 year Management Agreement with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). Sematan Silk Farm, the only silk farm in Malaysia, is situated in the Sematan District located some 110 km from the modern metropolis of Kuching City, capital of Sarawak, better known as "The Land Of The Hornbills".
Out of the 228 hectares allocated, currently 50 hectares is planted with the mulberry plants and some 20 hectares is used to house the production buildings, staff and worker quarters and offices. The farm and production facility is operated by 80 farm and production workers, supervised by 8 member management team guided by two sericulture experts and two silk quilt technicians from China.
An additional 430 hectares was recently allocated to Zuhrah Pelangi for farm extension to increase production and to accommodate Zuhrah's long term strategic objectives of (i) establishing an Integrated Silk Processing Centre. (ii) Development of associated leisure facilities like animal parks, fishing ponds, horse riding and etc. (iii) tropical fruits and flower gardens.
Sarawak is well known as a destination for adventure, education and exotic ecological sights. Being the only Silk Farm in Malaysia it is to be incorporated into the mainstream tourism offering visitors educational tours for silk cultivation and silk quilt manufacturing process.
